In the middle of the merry month of May, fifteen members of the Hostelling and Trail Walking group set off for the beautiful Forest of Dean. Staying in a large interesting old house, the group went out to explore the area, taking in walks along the river Wye to Goodrich Castle and to Symonds Yat with its interesting cable ferry, to Tintern Abbey, the sculpture trail and neighbouring Monmouth and Ross on Wye. The scenery was spectacular at this time of year: leafy and green. The holiday culminated in a delicious meal in a friendly country pub, The Dog and Muffler, at English Bicknor, right out in the sticks.
