We are continuing to investigate a wide range of Maths related topics in a hopefully not too academic fashion.

Recently we have looked at:

  • How the Babylonians and Ancient Egyptians used numbers and did arithmetic.
  • The use, and occasional misuse, of probability and statistics in court cases.
  • How logarithms were invented, to replace difficult long multiplication and division by simpler addition and subtraction.

Some of us are also continuing to meet approximately fortnightly on Zoom to discuss answers to the Maths Challenge puzzles published weekly on the u3a website. They are not too difficult - have a look at them and join us.
