Spanish (Elementary)

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: On Thursday mornings 11:30 am-1:00 pm
Venue: Leaders Home

We focus very much on speaking and listening skills and include both ‘functional language’ for travel, hotels, restaurants and so on to help with visits to Spanish speaking countries, and ‘personal language’ to talk about our families, likes, personal experiences, plans, and so on.

We use the BBC course Talk Spanish Books 1 and 2 plus on-line videos, songs, simplified short stories and puzzles, and build in speaking and pronunciation, listening, role play and reading activities into each session.

There are many opportunities, (after plenty of preparation time!) for members to talk (in Spanish, please) about their own lives and experiences. Members are now relatively confident to say what they did and what they are going to do, with whom, when and where, to get what they want or need in shops, restaurants, bars, hotels and when travelling. They can talk about their families, homes, hobbies, routines, and plans, and ask others for this information and they can ask very relevant and sometimes difficult questions about how Spanish works! They are also
happy to do a limited amount of homework each week.
